Mühling Aug.[ust] 1, 1916.
I have neglected this book for a whole six months,
partly I didn’t have the time and also no desire
to write anything. – At the start of March Egon
came from the Exelberg to Liesing – there he had to
do two months of service and was ordered
here at the beginning of May. Militarily,
it is excellent for him here, compared to Vienna.
It’s a shame that this area is so far away from the place where
I would like to be!
Today it is exactly a year s.[ince] I came from Neuhaus
to Vienna; – am I much happier now than I was
then? – I would quite like it here
if the loneliness didn’t weigh on me so.
The brief time that Egon is with me races by so quickly,
the rest of the time creeps along endlessly.
I’m already so bored now, how will it be
in winter when the day is so short? But one thing
outweighs everything else, Egon is out of all danger here and
is treated very kindly and congenially by his superiors,
||
a studio has even been made available
for him. – All of this is worth so much and so I oughtn’t be
so impatient, filling this wretched time with complaining
– We’ve done many nice excursions from here,
to Kimberg-Gaming [Kienberg bei Gaming], Lunz, recently
we were in Ybbs, then from there to Amstetten and back,
today we want to go to Ybbs again. We went to Vienna
three to four times – met with various painters
– we’ve already had a few visitors here,
Mama Schiele, Mela, Willi, Dela [1] were
here. In three weeks we’ll go to Vienna again, and
in about four or five weeks, Egon will have a fortnight’s
holiday, half of which we’ll spend in Tyrol,
Innsbruck, and the surrounding area, the other half
in Vienna.
