Gänserndorf Dec.[ember] 7, 1915
On Sunday 5, Egon was transferred
here. A nice, boring little
place, but I hope that our stay
will be over by the end of this week. –
Beautiful, atmospheric hours can be
spent here. A sunset
of magical beauty.
The sky shines blood-red, bluish,
yellowish, the spindly trees stand out
against it as splendid silhouettes.
Now and again we meet Russians
(prisoners of war) working,
sturdy, tall figures with
typically Russian features. These
prisoners are not so badly off,
||
back home they may lack
many of the things that here they
receive as a matter of course, yet
there will be those among them
who long for their lowly huts, now
far away – out of reach, which to
them would seem precious.
