Tuesday, July 13, 1915 • B.
This morning was the first time I’ve felt full of
joy since we’ve been here. Egon
came home with the news that
we will probably be moved to Vienna.
Dear God – then everything will be well again.
But now, at 10h in the evening, I’m absolutely not
in a good mood! When the
post was brought to me today, I – I don’t really
know myself why I did it – put the letter from Egon’s
mother in my pocket, thinking
Egon wouldn’t notice. – Why on Earth
did I do th.[at]? – Sure, it was addressed to me
but why did I hide it? – I
can’t blame Egon for
[written by someone else, presumably Adele Harms:
20 K[ronen] sent to her in secret
on her request]

shaking his head at me. – My crying
now doesn’t help matters and
my behavior has [scored out: once again] shaken Egon’s
belief in me [scored out: again].
It hurts me so much when he
speaks such harsh words to me –
but he has every reason to.
I swear, by my to love to him, I will never,
ever do it again. I have nothing
to hide from him – how can I
do such harm to myself? His trust
in me must surely be weakened by this – but
I will make things right – I would
truly mortify myself if I erred again.
Egon, forgive me – I’ll never do it again!
