Friday July 2, 1915 11h in the morning
At 9h30 Egon surprised me –
how happy it made me – but my joy was
short-lived – he had to leave again after a quarter of an hour –
he dropped in to see me on an “official” errand
– the dear fellow. If he isn’t here again by 5h30
– I will go to him – I hope they will have lifted
the barracks confinement by then.
10h in the evening
There was no going out. – And who knows
how long this will go on for – I’m so terribly worried
that
Egon will get sick – though he doesn’t look it now – no –
but the physical and emotional strain
will – if th.[is] goes on – ruin him
completely. – I just hope we can soon find a way
||
for Egon to get away from here. Hopefully
Farkas or Peschka [1] will write tomorrow.
I have such overwhelming longing for Egon today.
In truth, I always have it – but today
it grips me especially – I am not
thinking of certain feelings here – I
long for him as a human being – I can’t even
imagine being with him again day and night.
– It will be too beautiful –
we resolve to always remain together faithfully and never
let anything cast a cloud over our togetherness,
then we’ll think about how terrible it was
– for us to be torn apart like this.
Farewell, Egon, sleep today – don’t think too much about
what cannot be changed (at least for now) – for God’s
sake,
please don’t cry – for I won’t be able to endure
all this if I see – that you are losing courage too.
Sleep – I will try to do the same –
with thoughts of you!
